INFORMATION ABOUT GRANTS
Grants
Settlers Cares Foundation will launch in 2023. Grant amounts will vary based upon the circumstances. Individual grants awarded will not exceed $2,500. Whenever possible, payments will be made directly to vendors.
To be considered for a grant from the Settlers Cares Foundations, applicants must be:
- An active, regular full-time or part-time employee working in the hospitality industry in the Pocono Mountains; or an active, regular full-time or part-time employee working in a business that is affiliated with the hospitality industry in the Pocono Mountains.
- The spouse or eligible dependent of a deceased employee.
- Employees may only apply one-time per incident.
QUALIFING INCIDENTS
The situation must fall into one of the following categories:
Occurrences such as wildfire, flood, tornado, hurricane, severe storm or earthquake that have damaged or destroyed the employee’s primary residence. Settlers Cares Foundation cannot pay to repair other properties and cannot pay to replace non-essential items. Official incident reports or other supporting documentation may be required.
Settlers Cares Foundation is not a substitute for medical insurance. Employees do not automatically qualify for a grant when they or their dependents are diagnosed with or suffer a life-threatening or serious illness or injury. There must be resulting financial need placing a significant pressure on the family’s financial resources. Doctor confirmation, medical documentation or other supporting documentation may be required.
This includes the death of the employee, or the employee’s spouse, parent or eligible dependents. The loss of income or the cost of funeral expenses or medical bills must significantly impact the family’s resources. Supporting documentation may be required.
This includes but is not limited to fire, major home damage that could not be prevented or serious crime against the employee. Examples include robbery, arson, assault, domestic abuse or another reportable crime that significantly impacts the family’s resources. Official incident reports or other supporting documentation may be required.
Assistance grants do not include reduced work hours or pay (lost compensation due to missed time from work); items covered by insurance, credit card bills, home foreclosure, car repair, accumulated financial distress, accidental damages due to negligence or legal fees.
Eligibility
The individual named in the application must meet Settlers Cares eligibility.
Financial Hardship
The individual named in the application must be experiencing financial hardship due to the unexpected nature of the qualifying incident.
Incident Date
The qualifying incident must have happened within the past 180 days.
